Chinese President Xi Jinping led a ceremony in Beijing on Wednesday to honor national heroes and martyrs on Martyrs’ Day, an observance held annually on September 30. The event, which took place at Tian’anmen Square, is dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for China’s national independence, development, and prosperity.
During the ceremony, Xi and other senior leaders stood in silence after the national anthem was played. They presented nine large flower baskets at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, paying tribute to the country’s martyrs. This annual event, formally established in 2014, underscores the significance of remembering those who contributed to China’s historical achievements.
Representatives from various sectors of Chinese society, alongside the political leaders, participated in the solemn ceremony. The event comes just before China’s National Day and marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China as well as the 90th anniversary of the conclusion of the Long March, a key episode in Chinese history that spanned from 1934 to 1936.
