China has called on India to adhere to bilateral border agreements and collaborate to maintain peace and stability along their contested frontier. This plea comes amid reports of renewed tensions between the two nations.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized that Beijing remains committed to the existing agreements and understandings with India. He noted that China’s routine patrols and border management activities are meant to protect its territorial sovereignty and ensure stability in the region. These comments were in response to reports of another border standoff.
An Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson indicated that such incidents typically occur when Chinese troops deviate from established patrolling patterns. Despite these challenges, Guo asserted that both countries continue to engage through diplomatic and military channels to address border-related issues.
Guo urged India to work with China to implement the understandings reached by both sides and to take practical measures to prevent further tensions. Both nations face the significant task of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border while managing territorial disputes through dialogue and established communication mechanisms.
