Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for enhanced global cooperation in the field of traditional medicine, emphasizing the need for scientific innovation and improved access to healthcare. Speaking at the 2026 World Conference on Traditional Medicine in Beijing, attended by approximately 1,200 participants, Li highlighted the significance of traditional medicine in public health protection and cultural knowledge preservation.
Li outlined China’s commitment to advancing traditional Chinese medicine through scientific research and technological innovation, integrating it into modern healthcare applications. He advocated for the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to further modernize traditional Chinese medicine practices. Additionally, Li expressed China’s intent to foster collaboration among domestic and international research institutions, businesses, and healthcare organizations to drive innovation in the sector.
The Chinese premier also proposed expanding pilot programs that enhance medical service offerings and encourage the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal resources. He emphasized the importance of making healthcare more accessible globally and reducing health service inequalities.
Li urged countries to learn from each other and avoid a singular approach to solving complex health challenges. He called for balanced policymaking and shared responsibility in tackling public health concerns, underlining the necessity for greater international cooperation.
