China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang captured the silver medal in the men’s doubles badminton event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking China’s first appearance in the finals of this event in 36 years. The duo was defeated by Indonesia’s Daniel Marthin and Leo Rolly Carnando, who secured the gold medal after a hard-fought match.
The Chinese pair opened strong by winning the first game 21-19. However, Marthin and Carnando responded with a 21-13 victory in the second game and clinched the final game 21-18. This result mirrored China’s previous finals appearance at the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, when Li Yongbo and Tian Bingyi secured the gold.
Liang and Wang entered the Asian Games as world champions, having won the men’s doubles title at the World Championships in August. They showcased their skill by defeating Indonesian players in both the Asian Games men’s team final and the men’s doubles semifinal.
Despite the loss, Wang Chang expressed determination, stating that they are resolved to continue pursuing gold medals in future major competitions. Their performance in Aichi-Nagoya adds to China’s overall success in badminton at the games, with the nation securing two gold medals in the women’s team event and mixed doubles, as well as silver in the men’s team, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles events.
