Xi Jinping and Kazakhstan’s President Enhance Strategic Partnership in Shanghai

During the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, showcasing the robust strategic partnership between their nations. The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

President Xi emphasized the importance of aligning development strategies between China and Kazakhstan, with a focus on enhancing trade, cross-border e-commerce, and energy initiatives. He also stressed the need for collaboration in transportation and the digital economy. Additionally, Xi pointed to the significance of advancing joint efforts in artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, science, and culture, as well as working together on multilateral platforms like the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

From the Kazakh side, President Tokayev underscored China’s role as Kazakhstan’s foremost foreign policy partner. He expressed a keen interest in expanding cooperation across multiple domains, including trade, investment, transportation, and agriculture. Tokayev also highlighted the significance of energy partnerships and governance in the realm of artificial intelligence.

Following the discussions, the leaders of China and Kazakhstan presided over the signing of various cooperation agreements. These agreements span areas such as trade, transport, finance, and media, marking a tangible step forward in their bilateral relations.
