China, Russia Celebrate 25-Year Treaty, Strengthen Strategic Partnership Ties

Date:

China and Russia have celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation by renewing their pledge to deepen bilateral relations and enhance long-term strategic collaboration. This treaty, first signed on July 16, 2001, and subsequently extended, serves as the cornerstone of their comprehensive strategic partnership. As part of this commitment, Chinese officials emphasized that both countries would continue to foster mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, contributing to global development stability and confidence.

The anniversary also sets the stage for a future milestone as China and Russia prepare to commemorate 30 years of their strategic partnership in 2026. Trade relations between the two nations have been robust, with China holding the position of Russia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. In 2025, the trade volume reached around $228 billion, and there was a marked increase in commerce during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in the previous year.

Analysts and officials have highlighted that the treaty has significantly bolstered political trust and expanded economic ties, enhancing the resilience of China-Russia relations. The partnership is described as being anchored on principles of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and mutual benefit, which they believe supports a more balanced international order.

This reaffirmation of cooperation comes at a time when both nations are eager to solidify their strategic alliance. The anniversary serves as an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of their partnership while setting goals for further collaboration. As both countries look forward to future milestones, the emphasis remains on strengthening their strategic and economic ties to navigate the complexities of global affairs.
