29 Countries Form Global AI Group to Enhance International Governance

In a significant move to enhance global collaboration on artificial intelligence, 29 countries have come together in Shanghai to form the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). This newly established independent intergovernmental body aims to bolster international efforts in AI governance and ensure the technology is developed responsibly.

WAICO, headquartered in Shanghai, is set to focus on enhancing global AI governance, fostering international partnerships, and supporting the safe and equitable advancement of artificial intelligence. By adhering to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, the organization is committed to promoting a people-centered approach to AI development.

The founding members of WAICO include nations such as Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, and China. These countries will collaborate under the organization’s framework to ensure that AI technologies are developed and utilized in a manner that is safe and beneficial to society as a whole.

Through its initiatives, WAICO seeks to improve cooperation among its member states and reinforce the governance of AI on a global scale. The organization is dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of artificial intelligence are accessible to all and that its development aligns with the best interests of humanity.
