As Chinese President Xi Jinping commences his visit to Cairo, he has emphasized the importance of deepening ties and broadening cooperation with Egypt, underscoring the enduring bond between the two nations. Xi, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the First Lady, marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt. This visit aims to reinforce the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration.
In a message released prior to his trip, Xi highlighted the resilience of the China-Egypt relationship amidst shifting global dynamics. He advocated for aligning the development strategies of both countries, which are pursuing significant national development objectives. Xi urged greater collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on practical projects that promise long-term economic gains. He sees Egypt as a pivotal partner in enhancing China’s cooperation with Arab nations and the African continent.
The Chinese president also called for expanded partnerships in various sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He believes that increased exchanges in these areas will foster mutual understanding and fortify the connection between the peoples of the two countries. Xi stressed the importance of continued mutual support on critical issues and safeguarding shared interests, positioning both nations as influential members of the Global South.
During the visit, discussions are expected to further cement political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, unlocking new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and technology. Xi’s commitment to working with Egypt to build on seven decades of diplomatic relations aims to inject fresh momentum into their strategic partnership, ensuring both countries play a significant role in the promotion of global peace and stability through enhanced multilateral cooperation.
