Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for enhanced ecological conservation and sustainable green development during a visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia. His inspection underscored efforts in wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the promotion of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
While visiting the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi evaluated conservation efforts that have been instrumental in restoring the lake, which had faced threats of drying up due to climate and other pressures. Over the years, these measures have succeeded in expanding its water body. Xi emphasized the importance of implementing China’s wetland protection law, safeguarding biodiversity, and maintaining strict ecological protection boundaries. He advocated for prioritizing natural restoration in degraded wetlands, supported by scientific intervention when necessary.
Xi’s visit also included a stop at the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, where he examined the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This program aims to optimize the distribution of computing resources across the country. He stressed the need for efficient operations of completed projects and timely completion of ongoing developments. Xi urged authorities and industry stakeholders to foster computing infrastructure that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and secure, thereby strengthening China’s digital economy while promoting sustainable development.
Additionally, during his tour, Xi reviewed local agricultural and livestock products, encouraging officials to better connect production with markets to increase the incomes of farmers and herders. This highlights the broader focus on integrating economic growth with ecological and technological advancements to achieve sustainable development goals.
