Chinese Foreign Minister Bolsters Ties with Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan Visit

Date:

China has reiterated its dedication to enhancing partnerships with Central Asian countries as Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Kyrgyzstan, putting regional cooperation and multilateral engagement at the forefront of discussions. During his meetings with leaders and foreign ministers from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, the focus was on bolstering collaboration through platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations.

In Kyrgyzstan, China voiced its support for the upcoming SCO Bishkek Summit hosted by the nation and reinforced its commitment to upholding Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both parties agreed to intensify their coordination on matters of regional peace, security, and development, showcasing a mutual interest in maintaining stability and growth in the region.

Engagements with Uzbekistan highlighted the significance of advancing the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway project and expanding cooperation into emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development. These discussions underscored China’s strategic interest in fostering infrastructure and technological progress within Central Asia.

China and Tajikistan also reaffirmed their pledges to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on expanding practical cooperation in areas like energy and regional connectivity. This commitment follows the signing of a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty earlier this year, reflecting a deepening bond between the two nations.

Overall, Wang Yi’s visit underscored China’s growing strategic partnership with Central Asian countries, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, trade, technological innovation, and regional stability. The discussions and agreements reached during this visit highlight China’s active role in shaping the future of Central Asia through collaborative efforts and shared goals.
