Rupert Grint is making a return to his iconic role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” over a decade since the original film series concluded. Grint, who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in all eight Harry Potter films, will join the stage show for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027.
Expressing his excitement, Grint remarked, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old, and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He noted that the opportunity to portray Ron as a father, while he himself is also a father, brings a sense of both familiarity and novelty to the experience.
This move follows closely on the heels of Tom Felton’s return to his role as Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton, who played Malfoy in the films, is slated to continue his stage performance until January. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first premiered in London in 2016 and has since become a global phenomenon, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide. The New York production alone has generated more than $532 million in revenue.
Grint’s Broadway debut came in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since wrapping up the Harry Potter series, he has continued to build his acting resume with roles in “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the magical world of Harry Potter coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, which aims to introduce the beloved story to a new generation of fans.
