Hotel Okura’s 2029 Hakone Debut: All 58 Rooms Get Private Hot Springs in Industry-First Approach

Date:

Hotel Okura is making waves with plans for its first Japanese resort—and the concept is turning heads in the hospitality industry.
Opening in 2029, the Okura Resort Hakone Gora will feature private outdoor hot spring baths in every single room—all 58 of them. That’s not just a few suites or premium options; it’s wall-to-wall exclusivity, with each bath fed by authentic Owakudani thermal water.
“This changes the conversation around hot spring resorts,” says the design brief. Instead of coordinating schedules around communal baths or booking private facilities in advance, guests can soak whenever the mood strikes, day or night, in complete privacy.
Award-winning designer Gwenael Nicolas developed the “Forest Hideaway” aesthetic, creating spaces that blend into Hakone’s natural surroundings while maintaining sophisticated luxury standards. The property will also showcase high-end teppanyaki dining alongside the attentive service that’s become synonymous with the Okura name globally.
Industry observers are calling it a new benchmark for the region—one that could influence how luxury hot spring resorts approach guest privacy moving forward.
