‘Not Sustainable’: Trump’s Surprising Candor on Tariff War

In a moment of surprising candor, President Donald Trump has admitted that his administration’s tariff war against China is “not sustainable.”
This admission, made in a recent interview, provides a new context for the ongoing trade dispute. “It’s not sustainable,” Trump said, when asked about the tariffs. “But… they forced me to do that.”
The comments come as the president confirmed he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in two weeks to find a resolution. He expressed cautious optimism, saying, “I think we’re going to be fine with China.”
However, he also warned, “China is always looking for an edge. I don’t know what’s going to happen. We’ll see what happens.”
The talks are urgent, as a 90-day truce that has paused duties as high as 145% is set to expire on November 10. Trump’s goal is a “fair deal,” which he says the tariffs are necessary to achieve.
