Mac Desktop Users Losing ChatGPT Voice Feature Soon

ChatGPT users on Mac should prepare for a significant change. Voice interaction through the macOS desktop application will be discontinued starting January 15, 2026. OpenAI has communicated that this decision is necessary for focusing on more cohesive voice experiences across all platforms.
The discontinuation specifically targets the Mac desktop app. Voice capabilities will remain intact on the ChatGPT website, which works on any browser, as well as on mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. Windows desktop users will also retain their voice functionality. Mac is the only desktop platform experiencing this change.
OpenAI has not elaborated in detail on why Mac is being treated differently. The company’s statement about unified experiences indicates that architectural differences in the Mac app may prevent integration with future voice technology plans.
