Manchester United to Back Amorim Despite Domestic Struggles, Eye Bold Summer Rebuild

Date:

Manchester United plan to retain manager Rúben Amorim next season regardless of the Europa League final outcome against Tottenham on May 21. Despite a dismal domestic campaign that has left United 16th in the Premier League with a record 17 losses, the club’s hierarchy remains committed to Amorim’s long-term vision.
Appointed in November following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, Amorim has struggled to reverse United’s fortunes in league and domestic cup competitions. However, progress in the Europa League, which could yet deliver Champions League qualification, has offered a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak season.
The Portuguese coach has emphasized the need for a cultural overhaul at the club. “We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave. We cannot start another season like this,” Amorim said after a recent 2-0 defeat to West Ham. “We’ve lost the fear of losing, and that’s dangerous for a club of this size.”
As part of his rebuild, Amorim has identified Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich striker Liam Delap as priority targets. Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause, while Delap could cost £30 million. However, United will need to sell players to fund these signings.
Several high-profile exits are expected this summer, with Marcus Rashford likely to be sold, potentially to Aston Villa or a higher bidder. Jadon Sancho, Antony, Casemiro, and Rasmus Højlund are also among those who could be moved on to boost the transfer budget.
