Starmer Stands Firm as Leadership Rumours Put Spotlight on Burnham

Date:

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has attempted to remove doubt about his leadership, defending Andy Burnham and urging Labour MPs not to engage in speculation.
Burnham revived attention after refusing to completely close the door on a future leadership bid. His remarks come as the government faces fiscal challenges and slipping poll numbers.
Speaking during his flight to the G20 summit, Starmer referenced his close collaboration with Burnham following the Manchester synagogue attack. He praised the mayor’s communication and leadership.
Starmer also pushed back against claims about Wes Streeting planning a coup, stating such gossip undermines Labour’s mission to address economic hardship.
Burnham said he remains committed to Manchester’s economic agenda but conceded that he cannot predict the future. Political observers continue to speculate about his next move.
