From Trump Ally to Political Rival: Elon Musk Forms ‘America Party’

Date:

Elon Musk, once a key financial supporter and advisor to President Donald Trump, has taken a dramatic turn, announcing the formation of his own “America Party.” This new political entity is designed to target a limited number of congressional seats, aiming to become the crucial swing vote on major issues in light of the razor-thin margins in the House and Senate.
Musk’s decision to launch the “America Party” was solidified by an X poll he conducted on Independence Day, which overwhelmingly supported the idea of a new political alternative. He articulated a strong desire for “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system,” criticizing what he perceives as a single, corrupt establishment.
The immediate catalyst for Musk’s political pivot appears to be his strong opposition to the recent $3.3 trillion spending bill signed by President Trump. Despite having spent $277 million supporting Trump’s 2024 campaign and leading an unofficial “department of government efficiency,” Musk threatened to form a new party if the bill passed.
The passage of the spending bill with a narrow margin in both chambers (218-214 in the House, Vance breaking a 50-50 tie in the Senate) validates Musk’s strategy. He envisions his party’s small contingent of elected officials holding the balance of power, ensuring that controversial laws genuinely reflect “the true will of the people,” not just partisan interests.
